Shira Preiser, LMSW

It takes courage to become the author of your own story. I help clients of all ages pack the tools they need for journeys of growth, connection, and empowerment. I’m honored to help clients discover how to become their own heroes!
My approach is client-centered, first and foremost. Whether clients choose to talk, draw, move, or play, the core of our work will always be creating an egalitarian relationship focused on supporting the client’s healing. I draw from existential therapy to help clients cultivate personal growth throughout different life stages. My practice also uses the principles of interpersonal neurobiology to help clients and their families understand how to tune into their feelings and create connections that lead to positive change. I also enjoy drawing on client interests such as anime, video games, and tabletop roleplaying games as therapeutic tools.
I work with clients as young as three years old, all the way up through adulthood. I also work with parents to help build their toolkit and navigate the complexities of guiding children through an ever-changing world.
Clients who come through my door are often grappling with life’s big questions. Sometimes, these manifest as depression or anxiety. Sometimes they’re more subtle and personal, like issues with loneliness, self-esteem, or communication. Others come seeking support in healing from trauma. Through all of these challenges, I offer support and a therapeutic style built on humor, curiosity, and connection.
My approach is proudly queer and neurodiversity affirming. I strive to provide an inclusive space that emphasizes the strengths clients and their families use to navigate complex and often hostile systems. Clients may need a safe space to explore, or a brave space for advocacy; in either case, I am here.
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker with a degree from Florida State University. I have two years of experience in private practice. I also draw on a background in child-centered early childhood education, particularly the Reggio Emilia approach. I bring the ethical and theoretical emphasis of child-centered education into my therapy practice, helping clients of all ages learn and grow in their own way.
